This wine is a breath of fresh air in a market reality of boozy, overripe new world reds. It shows that a Malbec can be big, ripe, and still felresh with natural acidity.
Long macerations to extract maximum colour and aromatics. Lots of French oak too (but not too much).
This wine has a pretty bordelais garnet colouration to it. Some slight purple accents too.
Aromatically, it is velvety and serious at the same time. Lots of bergamot, plum, blueberry, currant, and pipe tobacco. There is a slight cedary rusticity to it, from the extended oak aging.
Flavourwise, it is juicy, spicy, and persistent. It was definitely aided by almost an hour of decanting. Things mellow amd some more violet florality emerged. There are some lovely plum, prune, blackberry, currant, and smoke to it.
Delicious and complex. This would do well being cellared for maybe 5-7 years.

Fabre Montmayou Gran Reserva Malbec 2013, Mendoza, Argentina: Seductive blackberries and fleshy black plums on the nose, full-bodied with gorgeous velvet texture on the palate of this elegant Argentine red wine brought to us by Vistalba. Lovely bite on the palate. Spice and cedar smoke on a long and persistent finish. A beautiful expression of Mendoza Malbec. Pair with lamb chops.
