Seductive blackberries and fleshy black plums on the nose, full-bodied with gorgeous velvet texture on the palate of this elegant Argentine red wine brought to us by Vistalba. Lovely bite on the palate. Spice and cedar smoke on a long and persistent finish. A beautiful expression of Mendoza Malbec. Pair with lamb chops.

Malbec food pairings: baseball steak with sautéed mushrooms on wilted greens, selection of prosciutto and bresaola meats, bacon onion and potato omelet.

Reviews and Ratings

Jeff Wilson rated this wine as 94/100
Greg Hughes rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This wine is a breath of fresh air in a market reality of boozy, overripe new world reds. It shows that a Malbec can be big, ripe, and still felresh with natural acidity.
Long macerations to extract maximum colour and aromatics. Lots of French oak too (but not too much).
This wine has a pretty bordelais garnet colouration to it. Some slight purple accents too.
Aromatically, it is velvety and serious at the same time. Lots of bergamot, plum, blueberry, currant, and pipe tobacco. There is a slight cedary rusticity to it, from the extended oak aging.
Flavourwise, it is juicy, spicy, and persistent. It was definitely aided by almost an hour of decanting. Things mellow amd some more violet florality emerged. There are some lovely plum, prune, blackberry, currant, and smoke to it.
Delicious and complex. This would do well being cellared for maybe 5-7 years.
Fabre Montmayou Gran Reserva (2013) is an Argentinean Malbec from the Mendoza wine region produced by Domaine Vistalba. Wine grapes are grown on vines that are over 80 years old in Vistalba and Las Compuertas regions, and cropped at 35 hectoliters per hectare and aged in French barrel for 12 months. Lots of blackberry fruit, plum, leather and spice. Drink now or hold in cellar for three years. - Community Wine Reviews
