John Szabo, MS

An ambitious, nicely proportioned, earthy-smoky-graphite scented wine in a typical Bordeaux idiom, firmly structured, stately. I like the balance and drinkability, the succulence and structure, the full ripeness and genuine concentration (14% alcohol). I'd suggest revisiting this in 2-4 years for the full expression - this has plenty to give. Excellent value. Tasted March 2017. Value Rating: ***
Bob Citren reviewed this wine as follows:

Smoke, oak and tarry bits mingle on the nose with aromas red and black cherry/berry fruit. This 85% Merlot/15% Cabernet Sauvignon blend dishes up a lovely stream of dark black cherry, ripe black currant and racy cranberry sporting considerable depth and complexity. It's mid weight with good mouthfeel and a firm underpinning that could use another year in bottle, but can be easily negotiated with a three hour aeration/decant and a slab of prime beef, seasoned, grilled rare. Score - 4 Stars (out of 5). (Vic Harradine, winecurrent.com, Oct. 12, 2016)
Jane Staples rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Dark garnet with aromas of dark fruit, smoke and tar, echoed on palate. Extra-dry with grippy tannins. Pair with hearty beef bourguignon or duck cassoulet.

Natalie's Review

Château La Verrière Meritage 2014, Bordeaux A.C., France: This is an AC-designated wine, located in the east of the Bordeaux region. An incredibly well-priced wine for Bordeaux! Full-bodied with aromas of marauding dark shadows, tar, black fruit, smoke and oak. This is a French red wine blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Not for the faint of heart. Pair with a rare steak. Drink: 2016-2020. 349274 14.50% XD 750 mL  $18.95 Score: 89/100. April 28, 2017 Best Value Red Wine. Remarkable Roast Chicken Wine  Full Review
