Xavier Vignon's Lirac from Rhône is a supple, full-bodied red wine blending Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre with notes of ripe blackberry, red currant, thyme, and smoked paprika. This dry wine displays dusty tannins and creamy texture that will continue to develop over the next four years. Serve it at room temperature with herb-crusted rack of lamb as the wine's rosemary and lavender notes complement the aromatic seasoning, or pair it with beef bourguignon where the wine's richness matches the wine-braised meat. Winemaker Xavier Vignon sources fruit from fifteen parcels across the Lirac appellation, aging the Grenache in concrete while maturing a portion of Syrah in oak barrels to create layers of complexity. Xavier Vignon is one of the southern Rhône's most talented négociants, working with top growers across multiple appellations to craft wines that represent excellent expressions of vintage and place. This herb-tinged Lirac sits across the river from Châteauneuf-du-Pape and represents outstanding quality from this small, underappreciated appellation and will drink beautifully through 2030.

Food pairings: roast rack of lamb, veal roast in red wine sauce, steak and kidney pie.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
