This Riesling from Vineland Estates is electric with mouth-watering acidity and notes of lime zest and peach blossom. Ideal for grilled sausages, chicken sandwiches and fish tacos. This is your go-to poolside wine when the temperature soars. Serve it cool and refreshing by putting it in the fridge for 30 minutes or an ice bucket for 20. Fascinating fact: Vineland has been a cornerstone of Canadian wine for 45 years. Their property is steeped in history, dating back to Queen Victoria’s land grants. Their wine shop is in a restored 1877 log barn that’s like a wooden cathedral, and their award-winning restaurant is built around a carefully preserved, original pioneer homestead.

Riesling food pairings: shrimp tempura, grilled salmon with lemon sauce, duck liver pate, eggs benedict, planked salmon.

Reviews and Ratings

Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This.Riesling.

The Elevation has table presence yet weighs in at just 9.5%ABV. It is an extrovert, giving energetic expressions of lemons, limes, crunch green apples, white flower petals, and has a pleasing thread of slate like minerality. The mouth feel appeal is its off-dry lushness, mouthwatering crispness, and a film that locks flavour into the tongue for a healthy length of time. Tasty.

If I have my facts right, Vineland Estates crafts an Elevation every year. If you miss out on the 2023, watch for future vintages (or ones from the past).

This Riesling I will serve with charcoal grilled shellfish. Enjoy.

If appellation awareness turns you on, this creation is classified as Ontario VQA Niagara Escarpment, one of the three appellations nestled within the much larger Niagara Peninsula appellation.

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

A beautiful Ontario Riseling from a top Niagara producer. This expression is off dry, with aromas of peach and pineapple, with hints of golden apple, and a touch of stony minerality. As mentioned, this is off dry, with mouthwatering acidity, vibrant fruit with rounded and ripe flavours, along with a dry, stony mineral hint on the finish. Enjoy with shrimp curry or stirfry.
