Viña Eguía Reserva 2016 is produced from 100% Tempranillo from 40-year-old vines. The wine is a dry, full-bodied Rioja red smooth and velvety with dried red berries, plum, dark cherry, sweet dried tobacco leaf and savoury herb flavours on the palate. The wine was aged 24 months in American oak casks. Founded in 1982, the Bodega gets its name from a Basque term meaning 'truth'. This vintage was awarded Gold at the 2020 Berliner Wein Trophy.

Food pairings: lasagna with three cheeses, pizza Margherita, grilled pork sausages.

Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

The Vina Eguia 2016 is crafted from the king of grapes in Rioja, Spain - the one and only Tempranillo. Sure to please the amateur of Rioja wine with its classic aromas of fig, dried blackberry, mustard seed, parmesan cheese, cinnamon and cigar box. The wine shows a full body, delightful tannins, with acidity that helps keep everything in line, followed by a round and tasty finish. Palate: fig, raisin, black pepper, dried leaves, cigar box and cooking spice. Enjoy!

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
