Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Robust and flavourful. An indigenous grape to Bulgaria, this vintage of Melnik 55 is aged for 15 months in oak barrels. Aromas of plum jam, cedar, oak and leather. Full bodied and bright acidity no the palate, fruit is slightly tart, and more cedar and leather on the finish. Enjoy with slow roasted meats or stews.
Deep garnet color with subtle highlights. Aromas of dried fruits, plums, spices, and smoky oak. Medium-bodied spicy flavor with hints of spicy oak. Medium spicy finish.
Melnik 55 is a hybrid wine grape variety based on old Bulgarian variety Wide Melnik vine.
The wine was made from carefully double hand-selected grapes of Early Melnik Vine (Melnik 55) – a natural cross of Broadleaved Melnik Vine and Valdigue. The grapes were harvested during the third week of September in full ripeness and optimum parameters. Fermented in Stainless steel tanks, aged 15 months in new Bulgarian oak barrels, has the perfect shape for long life.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
