A savoury, meaty, juicy ripasso: a red wine to chew on with deep satisfaction. Cedar, chewy black cherry layers float happily on full-bodied weight. The Ripasso method takes leftover pomace from making Amarone wine and adds it to a Valpolicella wine to start a second fermentation and in doing so, adds alcohol, body, tannin and flavour to the final wine. Yes please

Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore food pairings: veal tenderloin, rich tomato sauce and pasta, roast rabbit.

Reviews and Ratings

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Love aromas and flavors of ripe dark fruit, raisin, plum, mocha, leather and licorice. A notably lighter style of Ripasso, yet still abundantly flavorful and well crafted. Juicy acidity and a lovely mouthfeel. Drink now or in a year or two. Tasted November 2017.
Villa Girardi Bure Alto (2015) is a meaty, full-bodied Italian Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore from the Veneto wine region. Very rich deep and complex with notes of chewy black cherry, anise and cedar spice, tobacco, leather and chocolate. Great value under $20. Drink now and pair with grilled meats or hold in cellar for another three years. - Community Wine Reviews
