Natalie's Score: 92/100

Love this small-batch Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from old vine grapes grown in the Maipu, Mendoza region. Aromatic with ripe berry and dried sweet tobacco leaf and oak spice aromas. Juicy, ripe black fruit, savoury herbs, spices, and smoke flavours on the palate. Tannins are firm and chewy, so give it about five years in cellar to mellow. If pouring now, decant two hours prior to pouring with a well-marbled rib steak or enjoy after 2024.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: grilled New York strip loin, hard cheese, braised pork shanks, veal chops.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, oak, smoke, and spice. Full bodied, dry, with soft tannins, bright acidity, and dark, plush fruit and berry notes on the palate. Balanced flavours, there are smoky notes on the finish along with a hint of vanilla. Enjoy with a grilled steak.
From the Mendoza wine region, Trapiche Gran Medalla 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is a well-crafted full-bodied Cab with layers of black currants, blackberry, wild herbs, toasty oak spice and smoke with vibrant acidity on the palate. Tannins are firm. Cellar for a few years and drink after 2024. - Community Wine Reviews
