Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Wow! A marvellous Merlot from Township 7. Rich, plummy, silky smooth, incredibly balanced and beautifully structured. Township’s 7 Provenance Series 2019 Merlot is a serious, all grown up Merlot that you need to try. Fair warning, buy a lot because it will leave you wanting for more. Even at 14.5% abv., one would hardly know that it is moderately high in alcohol; the wine is dry, fragrant, fruity and full-bodied with liquid cherry, ripe dark plum, savoury, smooth and subtly spiced with a whiff of vanilla playing in the background, all balanced with pin-point acidity, finishing long and satisfying on the palate. Pour with roast pork or with roast duck. Drinking beautifully now and could hold in cellar for three-plus years but it wouldn’t have a chance of that in my cellar. Tasted March 2022.

Grapes for this 100% Merlot were sourced from the winery’s North Oliver Bench’s Blue Terrace Vineyard with smaller parcels from Remuda Vineyard in Okanagan Falls and Front Yard Vineyard in Naramata, British Columbia. The wine was aged in American and French oak barrels for 18 months.

The 2019 vintage saw the same growing degree days (GDD) as in previous vintages but with a warm start to the growing season. Overall, the vintage was moderately cool with wines showing vibrant, rich and evenly ripened fruit, crisp acidity, and ripe, rich tannins for the reds.
