Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

The 2018 Cabernet Franc from Summerhill Pyramid Winery is an absolute beauty. Smooth, elegant and in total harmony, the wine is dry, medium-plus-bodied, lush with ripe red berry, raspberry cream, blackberry, earthy violets, flinty mineral flavours with just enough defined nutmeg, cinnamon and pepper spice on the finish to make it interesting. The wine is balanced with medium-acidity and tannins are velvety throughout.

The organically grown Cab Franc grapes for this vintage were sourced from the west shores of Skaha Lake in the Okanagan Valley and the winery has been certified Demeter Biodynamic since 2012. The wine was fermented with natural yeasts in large oak foudres and allowed to mellow and rest for 26 months in neutral oak barrels. Pour with filet mignon and roast pheasant. We poured it with a venison filet mignon encroute. The 2018 Cab Franc can easily hold a year or two in cellar, but why wait - it’s drinking beautifully now! Tasted April 2021.

Retasted April 2023: Wow! did I say drinking beautifully in 2021? It's really a fresh raspberry cherry fruit bomb now and with so much purity of fruit! If I could have seen where this wine was going to in 2021, I would have given it a 93 over a 92 point score. This is one beautiful Cabernet Franc. If you have the 2018 (and I hope you have many), I would say it is peaking now and for next year or so.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
