Lots of chocolate and mocha on the nose of this full-bodied Italian red wine from generous oak aging. Robust and generous (you gotta like that in a wine or a person) with attractive aromas and flavours of tart cherry and wild blackberry. A solid finish. Great for potluck gatherings. This wine cries out for food, especially anything with a tangy tomato sauce. Decant 2 hours -- very grippy, firm tannins.

Food pairings: meat lasagne, vegetarian pizza, Porchetta.

Reviews and Ratings

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Notes of black cherry, baking spice, dark chocolate, leather and vanilla. Medium bodied with supple tannins, elegant and rich this wine is a crowd pleasure for sure! Lengthy chocolate cherry finish.
Piccini Sasso Al Poggio (2012) is a robust red wine blend of 60% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet, 20% Merlot from the Tuscany wine region. Look for tart cherry and wild blackberry flavours on this great red for game stews. Decant for one hour prior to serving. - Community Wine Reviews

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
