A lovely expression of cool climate Merlot from Rosehall Run, one of the most respected producers in the region. Aged in French oak. Colour is deep purple. Aromas of ripe black plum, spice, leather and pomegranate. Medium tannins and body. Well balanced with a long finish. Pair with grilled meats.

Merlot food pairings: barbeque pork and beef, grilled vegetables.

Reviews and Ratings

Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Gorgeous, full bodied, big tannins, chewy mouthfeel, well balanced, integrating well. Ripe plum, juicy blackberry, baking spices, savoury herb. Paired well with Tex-Mex chilli con carne. Tasted 2016 vintage in March 2019. 90 points
2016 Vintage
The 2016 vintage came on the heels of the great frost that wreaked disaster on PEC vineyards in 2015.
The vines entered the 2016 growing season without bearing the stress of carrying a crop the previous year and benefitting from mature budwood from the warm 2015 season. As such the vines were ready to produce. The season began a little cool but the hot dry summer was tailor made for ripening Merlot, Cabernet Franc and other later season varietals growing in the County.

Winemaking
After a cuvaison of 24 days, the wine was settled for a couple days and quickly barreled down with fine lees in our underground cellar for 18 months. There was no expense spared, lavishing 60% new French oak on this wine and selecting the best half dozen barrels for this truly small lots expression.
Subsequent to bottling we held the wine for another nine months in our cellar until release.
