Since starting the Ravenswood winery in Sonoma County in 1976, Joel Peterson has amassed enormous critical acclaim, a dedicated cult following and has even been nicknamed the Grandfather of Zinfandel. Ravenswood's Dickerson Single Vineyard is planted close to eucalyptus trees and the oil from the trees blows off and coats the grapes lightly imparting a light hint of mint. The 100% Zin is fresh, red berries and cherries, and the wine is aged in Navarre French oak barrels for over 10 months, 30% new barrels. The barrels are made from oak primarily from the Navarre forest in France, and they are seasoned outside where the weather impacts their final flavour profile and brings out their natural wood-grain tannins. Joel Peterson says that "airoir" affects the taste of this wine and uses hand/manual punch down to extract more flavour. This wine displays dazzling aromas of ripe red berries and other fruits.

Reviews and Ratings

Neil Phillips rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Age shows on a mature nose with muted bit still evident black fruits, eucalyptus.

Medium+ acid, harmonious on the palate with Christmas cake, spice box, black plums. Super long finish that never gets jammy. Very well balanced.

Tasted October 2018.
Ravenswood Dickerson (2010) is a single vineyard Zinfandel from Napa Valley, California. Winemaker, Joel Peterson, says that "airoir" affects the taste of this wine as vineyards are planted close to eucalyptus trees and the oil from the trees blows off and coats the grapes lightly imparting a light hint of mint. Great balance and structure on this otherwise, dark cherry, crushed raspberry, cake spice and citrus zest on the palate. - Community Wine Reviews
