Painted Rock’s Red Icon is a benchmark wine for Canada. This robust BC red wine is a blend of 45% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc, 11% Malbec, 11% Petit Verdot and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The wine was matured for 18 months in oak barrels. Aromas of fleshy ripe black fruit, toasty oak, graphite and violets. Compare this to any Bordeaux at the same price, and you'll have a hands-down winner in Painted Rock. Pair with grilled meats. Decant 2 hours.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Aromas include black plum, violet, cedar, spice, and campfire smoke. Vibrant and full flavoured, with a lot of smoky spice on the palate, and firm tannins that are still kicking even hours after decanting. Lovely, bold, and full of flavour. Enjoy now with a hearty steak or cellar and enjoy over the next decade.
Deborah Podurgiel rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Painted Rock’s Estate Grown Red Icon is a full-bodied 45% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc, 11% Malbec, 11% Petit Verdot and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon Bordeaux-style blend aged 18 months in 30% new oak. The wine is also unfiltered and deep red in the glass. On the nose, Painted Rock’s flagship red is ripe dark fruit, mocha-espresso, smoky and spicy with a hint of vanilla. With more of the same on the palate, the wine is dry, richly textured and very approachable now with smooth, ripe tannins and fresh acidity. Red Icon is a balanced, well-built and self-assured red. This vintage could easily hold in cellar another five years to show its best, but if pouring now, decant one hour prior to serving and pair with a garlic and herbed venison tenderloin or a grilled beef bavette.
