Reviews and Ratings

RESERVA / This lovely Spanish red wine is dusty and earthy with great structure, but it's not fruity in the least. Just a faint hint of dried blackberry on this Rioja red wine. Also dried herbs and an almost chalky finish in an attractive way, though a little short. This full-bodied Spanish red wine is made from all Tempranillo. Finishes with espresso. MINE: Muriel Reserva Vendimia Seleccionada (2011) is a full-bodied red wine with from 100% Tempranillo. The wine is blackberry jam, wood smoke and espresso coffee and dark chocolate on the palate. There is a lingering dried-herb, savoury finish on the wine. Really a WOW wine looking for a roasted garlic and rosemary leg of lamb. OTHER: Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review: From Spain's Rioja region, a Tempranillo matured 24 mos in oak, 12 mos in bottle. Aromas and stronger flavours of mature red fruit, sweet spice, tobacco, leather and fragrant rosemary. Mouth-watering acidity, silky tannins, endless elegant finish. Savour this one with rack of lamb smothered in lots of garlic and rosemary. Tasted Jan. 2017. OTHER: Crafted from the region's celebrated Tempranillo, this is always a classic example of traditional Rioja. It will be dark and earthy with spice, dried herbs, leather and Rioja's telltale balsamic note. Muriel ages their Reservas for two years in American and French oak, a year more than required by law, and matures them for another two years in bottle. Tempranillo's fabulous food-friendliness will be amply on display here; pair with paella, risotto, lasagna, polenta, Chile rellenos...we could go on (Vintages Panel, updated). - Community Wine Reviews

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
