Lots of ripe black fruit, toasty oak and alcohol on the nose and palate of this robust Spanish red wine made from old vine Monastrell grapes. Winemaker David Toferup ages the wine for 6 months n French and American oak barrels. The yield is less than 25 hectolitres per hectare. Light filtration only. Pair with grilled meats.

Monastrell food pairings: cheesy pizza, pepper steak, mixed meat grill.

Reviews and Ratings

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

This Monastrell has aromas of plump black plums, violet, pot-pourrit and flavours of juicy dark berries, sweet spice, and espresso. There is medium tannins with a slight bitterness at the finish.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
