Reviews and Ratings

Brent Gushowaty rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The wine is very pale, almost a rosé and with a salmon coloured rim. On the nose it surprises however, as pinot noir can with a bouquet that delivers far more than you might expect from its colour. It shows distinct notes of strawberry, baked and fresh cherry, some briar and a touch of graphite while later there were some notes of pomegranate and apple. On the palate, the first impression is of soft, rounded, ethereal cherry fruit. The wine is fruit driven at this point and relatively simple with the best features here being its texture and balance but both are delightful. The balance is poised with light, focused fruit floating on an excellent supporting acidity. It should develop further over the next 2-4 years.
The alcohol here is a fairly restrained 13.7 percent.

The 2016 vintage was generally more favourable for pinot noir in B.C. than 2015 with milder Summer temperatures that allowed a more gradual ripening.

The winery is located near Kamloops in the newly recognized GI (geographical indication) area of Thompson Valley, similar to the existing GIs of Okanagan, Similkameen and others.

For this vintage, the fruit was sourced from The Rise vineyard just East of Vernon in the very Northern part of the Okanagan Valley.

The winemaker here is Galen Barnhardt.

The wine won a Platinum medal at the 2017 B.C. Wine Awards and Gold at the 2018 B.C. Lieutenant Governor's Awards

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Monte Creek Estate Winery 2016 Reserve Pinot Noir is absolutely magnificent now. We poured it with a crown roast of lamb and the freshness of the lamb with the sultry, smooth and savoury flavours of the wine was absolutely spot on!

Smoky, super smooth and delicate with dark cherry, but mostly savoury on the palate, I've been cellaring it since its release and I recommend having it now to fully enjoy it. Tasted April 2023.

The 2016 reserve PN was produced using a non-intervention method and fermented with native yeasts. Malo was spontaneous and the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
