This Chardonnay made by Charlie Wagner of Napa Valley fame and was first produced in 2005. Mer Soleil Silver 2016 is a dry, full-bodied, unoaked Chardonnay from Monterey County. On the palate, tropical fruit and ripe orchard fruit come together with a soft citrus, crisp and clean finish. The opaque grey bottle is a nod to the stainless steel and cement tanks in which this wine is fermented and aged rather than oak barrels. Chill and enjoy now with grilled shrimp.

Chardonnay food pairings: spinach and pepper jack stuffed chicken, lobster with melted butter poached whitefish in white wine sauce.

Reviews and Ratings

Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

If the name hadn't stated unoaked I may have assumed otherwise. This is a rich, full bodied Chardonnay with generous ripe fruit and a slightly textured palate. The ripe apple and creamy notes on the nose have spicy sandalwood highlights. The palate shows the same ripe fruit along with some underlying lemon. Nice balance and a long finish. Good value. Pair with grilled shrimp dishes. Tasted July 2019. www.thewineloverskitchen.com
Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Potent nose of candied tropical fruit, butter, pineapple, and papaya. Dry with mild texture and good mouthfeel. Rich and full bodied clocking in at 14.8% ABV. Touch of bitterness on the finish underlining the tropical fruit flavours. Enjoy with roast fowl and steamed shellfish.

Great acidity on this fresh Chard with almond, crunchy apple, some tropical fruit and citrus notes on the palate. Chill and enjoy now with grilled shellfish.
