Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This is made from Zweigelt, a grape that originates in Austria. On the nose this wine has aromas of candied cherry and ripe raspberry along with woody, spicy notes. Medium+ bodied, with some drying tannins, bright acidity, and lots of dark berry notes on the palate with more woody and spicy hints balanced with a hint of mocha. Enjoy with BBQ ribs or burgers.
Zweigelt is the grape we use for Pulcinella and our Pulcinella Reserve. The only difference between Pulcinella and its Reserve version is that with the Reserve we ferment in French oak and the Pulcinella never sees oak. The fermentation in oak changes the Reserve to have more spice nuances and gives it a bit more mid palate body but the essential concept is the same - we are shooting for a Valpolicella or Montepulciano D'Abruzzo inspired red made from an Austrian grape. The reason is that Zweigelt seems to express itself on our soils in a way that lends itself to a northern Italian red.
