The Mazzei family have been the owners of this Italian winery, Castello di Fonterutoli, since 1435. The 2013 vintage of the Chianti Classico Riserva Ser Lapo offers black fruit aromas and firm tannins. Juicy and full-bodied Italian red wine with lots of wild black cherry notes, some smoke and mocha. This Chianti Classico Riserva Ser Lapo is made from Sangiovese grapes. Savoury and meaty with a long finish. Decant 2 hours for maximum pleasure. Pair with grilled meats.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

A very pretty pale garnet colour, after a 3 hour decant - poured in the glass. Sangiovese is predominant with this blend, adding another 10 percent Merlot to the mix. A bouquet opening up with vibrant aromas of red plum, dried fruit, smoke, leather, graphite and cedar. Flavours bing life to these aromas with raspberry, pomegranate and smoky spices. Acidity is firm, but not over powering, showcasing a plush medium body. Nicely balanced, with lingering tannins adding a nice touch of grip. A good accompaniment to a thin crust pizza topped with Sun-dried tomatoes. Enjoy!
