Malivoire Vivant Rosé V.Q.A. from the Beamsville Bench is a bone-dry, medium-light 100% Pinot Noir rosé made using the saignée method, where a portion of red wine juice is bled off early in fermentation to intensify both the rosé and the remaining red wine. On the nose it's lifted and precise, with dried hibiscus, white nectarine, and a whisper of crushed limestone. On the palate it's tart and energetic, with pomegranate, tangerine zest, fresh rhubarb, and a long, mineral-driven finish with mouth-watering acidity. Winemaker Elisa Mazzi took the lead in 2023, mentored by Shiraz Mottiar, who built Malivoire's reputation over nearly two decades and was named Ontario Winemaker of the Year by Quench Magazine in 2017. In 2021 Malivoire was named Canadian Winery of the Year at the National Wine Awards, claiming three Platinum medals, the most ever awarded to a single winery in one competition. Founder Martin Malivoire, a Hollywood special effects director who worked on films including A Christmas Story, built the first gravity-fed winery on the Beamsville Bench and pioneered certified organic farming in the region. Drink it now through 2027. Pour it alongside fresh oysters with a mignonette, where the wine's sharp acidity and mineral edge are a stunning match, or try it with a strawberry and spinach salad with poppy seed dressing where the wine's fruit and zip bring the whole bowl together.
