There are Super Tuscans - and then there are true Super Tuscans. Luce, an impeccable blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, falls squarely into the latter category. It delivers refined power, with the firmness and structure of Sangiovese balancing the more boisterous and juicier Merlot component. The result is an impression of dark fruit and minerals atop a silky structure. The wine's overall impression is assertive without being flamboyant. Tuscan acidity amplifies its appeal while keeping it fresh and lively. A captivating hint of bitterness in the finish reminds us that it is serious wine. Amazingly seductive now, I'm sure it will evolve beautifully over the coming years. (Michael Apstein,winereviewonline.com,May 21, 2025) MINE: Luce is a true Super Tuscan—Merlot plushness balanced by Sangiovese structure, dark-fruit minerality and a silky, slightly bitter finish; cellar to 2027+ and serve with grilled red meats. NEW: Luce began as a joint venture between the Frescobaldi and Mondavi families, and it remains one of Tuscany's benchmark Super Tuscans. Black plum and graphite anchor the nose, with a hint of espresso creeping in underneath. It's dense and structured in the mouth, tannins firm but polished. This has real staying power, built to evolve for years rather than drink tonight. Lamb chops or a rich chateaubriand would make an easy match.
