Natalie's Score: 92/100

A full-bodied Californian white wine with classic Chardonnay aromas of green apple, peach, butterscotch and smoke. Layered and complex. Kistler is known for producing benchmark Californian Chardonnay and it shows in this example. The 2013 vintage was bottled unfiltered and unfined and therefore may leave a natural sediment in the bottle. Pair with quail or Cornish hen.

Chardonnay food pairings: lobster with melted butter, barbecued pork, roast chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Oh how I love thee Kistler...it's seduction of the senses each time I taste this Cali Chardonnay. Baked apples, vanilla, butterscotch, toast, honeycomb, toast. The mouthfeel is creamy and full-bodied. Pure California sunshine in a glass as light refracts off of the deep lemon colour in the glass. As a Chardonnay lover I would sit, sip and savour this wine and forget the food. Alas, if you must pair this beauty choose something as equally decadent such as lobster with melted butter, seared scallops in a butter sauce, lobster bisque, seared tuna steak, Lays potato chips.
Tasted: February 2017
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Vanilla fudge, toasted coconut and hint of lemon flow into a luscious butterscotch, coconut, lemon and toasty palate. Satiny and mouth-watering with lingering finish. Aphrodisiac wine...
Tasted Feb. 2017
This Californian Chardonnay is perhaps the best-known and most respected of Chardonnays in a state that's famous for them. Kistler Vineyards Mccrea Vineyard (2014) Chardonnay is a well-structured and lush Chardonnay with cream, lemon curd and a satiny mouthfeel balanced by refreshing acidity. I see pan-fried scallops in this wine's future. - Community Wine Reviews
