Kir-Yianni Xinomavro Rosé P.G.I. from Macedonia, northern Greece is a bone-dry, medium-light pink made from 40 to 60-year-old Xinomavro vines grown on carefully selected vineyard parcels chosen for their distinct soils and fruit ripeness. On the nose it's fresh and bright, with dried hibiscus, white nectarine, and a whisper of wild thyme. On the palate it's crisp and zesty, with pomegranate, tangerine zest, a thread of iron-laced minerality, and a clean, lingering finish with lively acidity and enough structure to hold its own at the table. Stellios Boutaris, fifth generation of the Boutaris winemaking family, leads Kir-Yianni, which was founded in 1997 by his father Yiannis Boutaris after leaving the family's Boutari Wine Group, a Macedonia wine business dating to 1879. The estate's Xinomavro vines grow on the eastern foothills of Mount Vermion near Naoussa, a region so steeped in history that Aristotle once taught a young Alexander the Great at the ruins of Mieza just nearby. Serve it well chilled now through 2027. Pour it alongside grilled lamb with oregano and lemon, where the wine's minerality and bright acidity are a Greek table match, or try it with BBQ roasted peppers and sausage where the wine's tangy freshness cuts through the richness beautifully.
