Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

The Juan Carrau Tannat 2017 is a lively wine from Las Violetas, Uruguay, that exposes aromas of black plum, sour cherry, licorice, smoke, earthy notes and cedar. The wine reveals soft tannins, a medium body, and a long and charming finish. Palate: dark skin plum, dried cherry, dried herbs, smoke, dark chocolate, vanilla and oak. Uruguay is starting to place itself in an enviable position in the wine market by proving, year after year, that it can produce great quality wine. Enjoy!
From Las Violetas, Canelones in Uruguay Juan Carrau 2017 Tannat is great value under $16. Robust with dark berry, bell pepper, meaty, espresso and dark chocolate flavours on the palate wrapped up in firm, chewy tannins. Can easily age for three years in cellar. Decant for two hours and pair with a ribeye done rare if pouring now. - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
