From the Maule Valley J. Bouchon Block Series 2017 Carmenère is excellent value under $18. Look for ripe cherry, red plum, red berry fruit and herbal notes on this smooth and concentrated Chilean Carmenère. Grapes for this wine were dry-farmed and the wine was aged for 12 months in a combination of foudres and barrels. Tannins are fine and velvety.

Carmenère food pairings: roast pork, veal chops, Salisbury steak.

Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Well made and easy to drink, the J. Bouchon Block Series 2017, from the Maule Valley in Chile, offers aromas of black plum, blackberry, black pepper, slate, sweet tobacco and sandalwood. Made mainly from Carmenere, this full-bodied wine exposes, polished tannins, light acidity and a dry finish. Palate: plum, cherry, green peppercorn, leather, tobacco, spice and cedar. Enjoy!
