Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Love the 2017 Select Barrels Cabernet Merlot from Hester Creek Estate Winery. The Cab Sauvignon, Cab Franc and Merlot blend is dry (residual sugar 2.6 g/l), medium-plus-bodied with refined and well-defined flavours of plushy plum, candied raspberries, dried dates, savoury herbs with vanilla, cinnamon and ginger cake spice flavours lingering on the palate. This wine is so cushy and comfortable like and old friend. Tannins are soft, and the wine is very approachable now, but could also cellar for three to five years.

The 2017 growing season started off wet but the hot weather that followed produced ideal conditions for vine growth and berry development with grapes reaching full phenolic ripeness. Growing Degree Days totalled 1422, well above the 1042 average for the Oliver region.

Wine grapes were sourced and hand-harvested from estate and local vineyards: Stone’s Throw on the Black Sage Bench, Rockpit Vineyards in west Oliver and Chahal Vineyard in North Oliver. Pair with a meat fondue and old friends.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
