Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 95/100 with the following review:

One word for Fort Berens Estate Winery’s 2025 Small Lot Grüner Veltliner -- Spectacular!!

I remember tasting and reviewing the winery's inaugural vintage in 2021 and although the wine was a little shy then, I was super impressed with the quality and where it was going. The grapes for that vintage were sourced from a one-acre block from the estate winery’s Red Rock Vineyard. As mentioned in that review I thought that it would be "interesting to see how it evolves" as the 2021 vintage was awarded Gold at the 2022 National Wine Awards of Canada.

Fast forward to short four years and the vintage 2025. Dry, medium-bodied, bright and vibrant, of course, but with incredible balance and a cornucopia of fruit flavours that keep presenting on the nose and palate. Fragrant with soft orange, peach, lime zest, fresh cut grass and apple blossom notes and so zesty with layers of stone fruit, melon, lime zest, fresh-cut grass, a hint of dried pineapple, white pepper spice, racy, rounded and silky on the palate with a forever finish. Simply spectacular and excellent value! Do not miss out on this small lot Grüner from Lillooet, British Columbia!

Produced from grapes sourced from a select block of the winery's Red Rock Vineyard from a very small batch of hand-picked estate grown grapes.

Winemaker's notes: "70% of the grapes were destemmed and crushed allowing 4 hours skin contact before pressing for optimal flavour extraction. 30% whole cluster pressing for mouthfeel, all juice fermented cold in stainless steel tanks."
Chill it up and enjoy it with fresh oysters on the half shell and the winery suggests pouring it with grilled whitefish or a traditional veal schnitzel. Drink now through 2029. Tasted June 2026.
