From the Calchaquí Valley, El Esteco 1946 2021 is produced from Old Vines Malbec (planted in 1946). Produced by Alejandro Pepa, this is a beautifully balanced and racy red with blackberry, blueberry, plum, dried fine herbs and subtle pepper and baking spice flavours vibrant on the palate. A portion of the grapes were whole-bunch fermented and tannins are fine-grained. Good now, better in 2024.

Malbec food pairings: well-marbled steaks from the grill, farmer's pork chops, meat-lover's pizza.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Rich and flavourful, with aromas of blackberry and blueberry along with hints of smoke and peppery spice. Full bodied on the palate, with medium tannins and some dry, grippy tannins. Berry flavours are rich and ripe, complimented with spicy hints and notes of oak and smoke on the finish. Enjoy with grilled meats.
