Zinfandel food pairings: roast quail in red berry and wine sauce, braised lamb shanks with rosemary, grilled pork chops.

Reviews and Ratings

Paul Lupinacci rated this wine as 87/100
Meg Charette - WSET ADV rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Rich complexity on the nose of over ripe black cherries and plums, stewed dark berries, juicy raisins, cherry pie crumbs, vanilla and baking spices. Rich, powerful, full bodied mouth feel of intense over ripened black cherry, black berry, coffee bean and white pepper. Velvety soft lingering tannins, leading to a long coffee bean, black cherry finish.
Big Old Smooth (2013) is exactly that with its 76% Zinfandel, 11% Petite Sirah, 8% Merlot, 2% Primitivo, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon blend, from Lodi, Sonoma and Napa, California. The wine spent 14 months in 80% new French, 10% each Hungarian and American oak barrel. The purple velvet label on the bottle is also very attractive which attests to this wine's velvety, fruitful character. - Community Wine Reviews
