Natalie's Score: 88/100

This Riojan red wine is a blend of traditional Spanish grapes with mostly Tempranillo (90%) and smaller amounts of Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano grapes. The wine is oak barrels from 18-24 months. Serve at 16-18 degrees Celsius with a rosemary-crusted lamb roast. Savoury dried herbs and tanned leather on the nose of this mature Spanish red wine, along with dried red fruit and smoke. Very attractive and drinking at its peak if you love mature wines like I do. Pair with a savoury, juicy lamb dish garnished with rosemary.

Food pairings: roast turkey and all the trimmings, prime rib, pork roast.

Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

If you want a nice bottle with sone age under its belt, you really can't do much better than this for the price. This Rioja is a Gran Reserva. This means 2 years in wood, 3 years in the cellar prior to release. It's a traditional blend of the most used Rioja grapes :mostly Tempranillo, with a dash of Grenache, Mazuelo, and Graciano.
Lots of brocking on the colour. It is tawny, woth reddish hues.
The aromas almost remind you of root-beer and licorice. Definitely sarsaparilla, coffee, cherry jam, tomato leaf, and tobacco.
It is medium to full bodied, rustic and mellow. It os older, so appreciate it for what it is. Try not to hang onto it for too long because the cellaring was basically already done for you, as it often is with Spain.
Pair it with eggplant lasagna or maybe simple charcuterie. Good value!
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

From the Spanish region of Rioja, comes the Don Jacobo Reserva 2010 Crianza. This wine is full bodied, with lovely aromas of strawberry, dried prunes, leather and cedar. Flavours of plum, pepper, vanilla and cedar all unite with enjoyable tannins and acidity. Tempranillo driven, the freshness of this Don Jacobo Reserva 2010 will offers sweet sipping moments with friends. Enjoy!
