Black fruit, smoke and tar on the nose with dark spice, cedar brush and smoke on the palate. Full-bodied, layered and complex. Decant 2 hours. It will also do well in the cellar.

Châteauneuf-Du-Pape food pairings: maple glazed roasted root vegetables, vegetable cassoulet, sausage cassoulet.

Reviews and Ratings

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Domaine de la Charbonniere was purchased by Eugene Maret in 1912. Over a hundred years later it is still a family affair with his grandson Michel Mart at the helm along with his wife, Mireille and two daughters, Veronique and Caroline. They all working together collaborating their thoughts, innovative ideas and creative vision for the vineyards. This wine is a classic showstopper - impeccably crafted and oozing with refined elegance. A blend of Grenache (95%) and Mourvedre (5%). Dark cherry, plum, and currants with intertwined layers of licorice, smoke, herb, earth, white pepper and floral. Lingering earthy finish. Tasted November 2017.
Domaine De La Charbonnière (2013) is a Châteauneuf-Du-Pape from the Rhône wine region. This benchmark Châteauneuf du Pape has a pronounced nose of dark plum, blackberry jam, spicy cedar and herbal nose. Drink now or cellar for 10 years. - Community Wine Reviews
