The robust, terrific 2012 vintage of the Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Cave was matured for more than two years in French and American oak barrels. Aromas of cassis, dark berries and smoke. Rich, layered and complex. Decant for 2 hours and pair with a rare steak.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: game stew, venison filet mignon, grilled game sausages.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Tasted in 2021, tasting vibrant, flavourful and robust. Aromas of dark plum, currant and black cherry, with notes of graphite, leather, spice and smoke. Full bodied, with bright acidity and some soft, drying tannins on the palate. Fruit flavours still have a lot of brightness, but there are some soft, dried tea and herb notes on a dry finish. Enjoy for another 3-5 years.
Domain Mega Spileo Grand Cave 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 28 months in French and American oak barrels. Warming at 14.5% alcohol, it has settled down considerably over the past few years becoming more welcoming and generous on the palate with plum jam, caramel, vanilla, coffee, nutty, pepper and oak spice flavours on the palate. Tannins are rounded, velvety. Still, decant for two hours prior to pouring with smoked braised meats or mature cheeses. - Community Wine Reviews
