Natalie's Score: 90/100

I love the mature taste of this wine: leather, spice and smoke with a backdrop of dried red fruit. Chewy and savoury and ready to drink now. Winemaker Alejandro Fernández is a widely respected vintner in the region. Ready to drink now or try if you can, to cellar it for a few years for even more pleasure. Pair with rack of lamb.

Tempranillo food pairings: lamb, roast suckling pig, sirloin steaks, semi-cured sheep cheese, short ribs.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A dark ruby colour in the glass with aromas of cherry, blackberry, leather, toast, black earth, and compost. The palate brings on a little more sweetness with some toffee, caramel, baking spices and cedar. The tannins are polishing and still a little drying. This is a full-bodied Crianza that is ageing well and close to peaking. Pair with charred or grilled red meat and lamb. Decanting 2 hours suggested.

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

The nose has aromas of ripe red cherries and subtle baking spices, vanilla and a hint of leather. The palate shows ripe cherries, vanilla, cloves, leather and oak. Dry and fairly tannic mouthfeel. Medium ripe cherry finish.
A savoury, meaty Spanish red wine with aromas of smoke and black fruit. Pair with game dishes. - Community Wine Reviews

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a fiesty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
