The warmth of the Niagara River region where the grapes for this wine grow shows through in the richness of the wine. This wine spent 7 months in French oak, 10% of which was new. It underwent a malolactic fermentation to add more creaminess and texture. It offers aromas of tropical fruit and pineapple with toasty oak.

Closson Chase are a well known Prince Edward County winery, but a few might be surprised to discover they have a few interesting wines from Niagara to display the contrasting terroirs.
This was tasted in 2017, so it has had some time to mature. The colour was a medium lemon-yellow. It's fairly saturating on the sides of the glass.
The aromas are full of yellow plum, honey, cornflower, clotted cream, and lemon chiffon cake.
On the palate, it has a lot more fresh fruit, still. Lemon zest, more yellow plum/nectarine, baked apple, and butter.
Put this alongside roast chicken, or pheasant in a salad.
Their Niagara Chardonnays are pretty soft and plump. Their PEC Chardonnay tends to have more cool climate structure in the acidity and mouthfeel. It might surprise you to hear there is such a drastic difference from Niagara to PEC, but Closson Chase would argue there is a terroir difference across the street, when you pay attention to the details as they do.

Tasted in 2017, this is a lovely Chardonnay still showing a lot of vibrancy. Beautiful aromas of warm lemon and honey. Nice body in the palate, smooth but still with some acidity. Flavours are full and rounded, more fresh lemon on the palate. Pair with roasted chicken with herbs.

Winemaker Keith Tyers employs a Burgundian, peasant-country approach at Closson Chase to produce wines that show their natural, true character without over manipulation. This example from the Niagara River appellation showcases the longer, warmer growing season versus the more moderate climate of Prince Edward County. Juicy, tropical fruit aromas and flavours are found here with mellow oak influence. Mouth watering acidity makes this a lip smacker on its own or a fine companion with food. Pan roasted halibut with lots of butter and a hazelnut- fresh herb crust might do the trick.
