Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

I love the freshness on this Cahors from Chateau du Cedre. It's difficult to imagine that a Cahors Malbec can be light and this wine is full-bodied with the ripe dark fruits, savoury herbs and exotic dark spices for which this wine is known, but there is a lightness on the palate and freshness of fruit on Extra Libre that is, well, refreshing. Produced without sulphites from 95% Malbec and 5% Merlot, the wine is perfumed with ripe plum and black cherry on the nose finishing silky on the palate with good acidity and length. Tannins are fine.

The harvest is sorted in the vineyards, destemmed and crushed upon arrival in the cellar. Maceration lasts for 30 days with daily punch downs. Malolactic fermentation is in concrete tanks. The wine is also aged one year in second-use barrels. Nicely done and easy to drink on its own, we paired it with dark chocolate studded with dried wild blueberries. Yummy! Tasted October 2020.
