Beautiful Southern Rhone medium-plus, unfiltered, red wine blend of 75% Grenache with Syrah and some Mourvèdre grapes from "vielles vignes" in the Costières de Nîmes, Rhône wine region. Produced by Michel Gassier. Wine grapes are destemmed and the blend is matured for 1 year on the lees in French oak barrels. The Grenache portion is kept in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness.

Food pairings: roast leg of lamb with rosemary and garlic, grilled meats, tourtière.

Reviews and Ratings

Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Raspberry preserves define the nose. Dried raspberry and bramble on the palate with a bit of licorice on the finish. Substantial but not overpowering you could enjoy it on its own or pair with beef stew. Very good value. Tasted Nov 15, 2019. thewineloverskitchen.com
Rebecca Meir-Liebman - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A traditional Rhone blend of mainly Grenache, with Syrah and Carignane. A boost of black cherries, spices and cassis are evident on the palate. Medium to full bodied with a good structure, soft and smooth tannins, barn yard notes and a well balanced acidity. Enjoy this wine with food, especially heading towards a braised lamb or deer dish.
Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Intensely ripe and fruity nose led by black cherry and raspberry with pepper, licorice, and oak hints. Decent body, round tannins, and good acidity. More dark fruit on the palate with black cherry and blackberry followed by an earthy hint. An accessible and easy-drinking red suitable for roasts and vegetables.
Château De Nages 2016 is an Old Vines Grenache with some Syrah and Mourvèdre wine grapes added in, sourced from the Costières De Nîmes, Rhône Wine Region. Fantastic value under $20. Produced by Michel Gassier. Look for dark cherry, anise and cake spice on this smooth, medium-bodied dry red ready for a roasted rack of lamb. - Community Wine Reviews
