Laced with dark chocolate, coffee and mocha up front with black raspberries and purple plums on the palate. Lip-smacking delicious! Hamurgers never had it so good.
Carmenere food pairings: beef stew, gourmet hamburgers, grilled meats, meatloaf, ribs.

|Darlene Myers - CAPS Student rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:|
The world is rejoicing that Carmenere has been re-discovered. It has basically disappeared from Bordeaux, where it was used mostly for blending. In Chile it has the starring role. And this wine is so easy to drink. Aromas of ripe berry fruits with a hint of coffee and oak, this flavorful wine with it's soft round tannins, would also be very food friendly. Dark fruits and spice on the palate make it a perfect wine for burgers, steak and beef stews.

Soft and well-structured mouth filling texture. Notes of dark plums and spice, generously framed by toasty American oak.

Here at the Reverse Wine Snob, we usually open a bottle of wine at dinnertime, but most of that wine is actually consumed apart from food, usually after dinner. Given this we're not overly concerned about food pairings. And when we are, we usually determine the food first, and then choose a wine to go with it. Every once in awhile though, we taste a wine and think "This would be so good with..." This is one of those times. And what we have here is a great steak wine.
The Casillero del Diablo Carménère has some nice berry notes, is fairly smooth, and has a bit of coffee on the finish. It opened up quite nicely on day 2, so give this one some time to breathe.
