Burrowing Owl 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is a big, bold, unfined, unfiltered and concentrated Cab Sauv., intense on the nose and palate with blackberry, cassis, crushed black raspberry, sage, black olive and oak spice flavours fresh on the palate. Pour with slow-cooked lamb shanks or grilled steaks topped with Cambozola cheese. Drink or hold. Burrowing Owl understands and champions eco-conscious winemaking. Photovoltaic solar panels on their property provide sustainable energy, and their solar water-heating project is so successful they have enough to heat a swimming pool for visitors who stay at the winery's 10-room guesthouse to enjoy.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: grilled New York strip loin, hard cheese, braised pork shanks, veal chop.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Burrowing Owl's 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the expressive and beautifully balanced fruit they're producing from their Black Sage Bench and Osoyoos vineyards in the south of the Okanagan. An abundance of fresh dark fruit, black berries, currants, Black Sage, menthol, and subtle earth notes on the nose which repeat on the palate. Very approachable immediately without the need to decant, this beautifully balanced Okanagan Cab has soft integrated tannins that are primed for immediate enjoyment and will show wonderfully over the next five years. Pop and pour and enjoy this beautiful expression of a fine Okanagan Cabernet with premium grilled steaks, charcuterie, or beef tacos. Enjoy 2022-2027. Tasted February 2022. 92 points. Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

The 2018 Burrowing owl Cabernet Sauvignon is something to talk about. Its stunning scents and flavours evoke ripe (not jammy) dark berries and plums - the lead characters in this cast - as well as floral blooms, dried spices and cracked peppercorns.

It feels vibrant. Medium bodied, super dry, warm, textured, with extroverted acidity and tannins.

In my view, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from British Columbia Okanogan Valley appellations yearns for time to let its tannins mellow and its flavours shine. Or, if you open it this year like I have, serve it with some protein to boost this cab’s tasty flavours. I served this with beef tenderloin and loved the effect. Enjoy.
