For fans of Argentina's dynamic byword vigberon, Catena, this wine is an exciting a departure from their typical territory. First of all, the wine is an incredible blend of Malbec and Petit Verdot - two monstrously powerful and expressive varietals that jave a habit of throwing off the balance in a blend. That doesn't happen here! These grapes were reigned in to 13.5% alcohol and the oak feels very natural and not overdone (lots of used oak, probably).
The colour is a medium-to-deep purple.
The aromas are great, though detractors of this wine point out how youthful it is and how it could be better down the road. This might be true, but it doesn't take anything away from the quality here.
Aromas of crushed blueberry, blackberry coulis, lavender, damson plum, dark chocolate, mulch, and new leather.
The flavours revolve a lot around the blue and black fruit. There is a lot of plum and blackberry. Vanilla and chocolate on the finish.
Decent pairing for lamb skewers, but next to good cheese it would do well. Something along the lines of Meule de Savoie or Bichonné.
It would also age at least 5-7 years. In six months to a year, it will be fantastic.

A blend of 85% Malbec and 15% Petit Verdot from Argentina's Mendoza region, producing a ripe, full-bodied wine with Damson Plum jam, mocha and touch of smoke on the nose. The
palate is jammy and delicious, with more ripe plum, mocha and touches of licorice and oak. Soft tannins and a very enjoyable lingering mocha finish. Fruit flavours blossom as this opens up, so it's a good one to sip with spicy pakoras as an appetizer. Will also accompany beef, lamb or venison dishes very well.

Catena continues to promote Argentina's wine growing regions with its newest brand. Altaland (2015) is a new regional series by Catena to highlight the many wine-growing areas of Argentina. "Tinta Historica" is a 85% Malbec and 15% Petit Verdot red wine blend. The wine is young and would benefit from a couple of years in cellar. - Community Wine Reviews
