Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Napa Valley, California, United States

Darlene scored this wine: 97/100

I had the opportunity to taste this beauty this past week, and have to say probably the best Cabernet Sauvignon I have ever tasted. Smooth and full bodied, this rich Cab had gorgeous fruits and smoke, with a hint of mint and spice. You could keep this wine for a while because it has great aging potential but also tastes great right now.

I think this is probably the highest rating I have ever given a wine. I had the opportunity to taste this wine at a tasting, and had to ask for seconds... it was that good. Full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon from one of Napa Valley's great vineyards, this Reserve 2010 is dark, with expressive bold fruits and hints of smoke. I took a few minutes to just enjoy all the luscious aromas before enjoying the wine. Beautifully structured with soft tannins and a lingering finish, this is the definition of a treat wine. Goes with anything and everyone.

What a gorgeous expression from Bordeaux. Honey, apricots and peaches on the nose. Smooth and silky with flavors of honey and peaches and a hint of nuttiness on the palate. Beautiful lingering finish to a beautiful wine.

And so my love affair with Bordeaux begins. This gorgeous blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot is a treat. Harvested manually - the grapes are picked by hand. Full-bodied flavors and aromas of black fruit, cassis, pencil shavings and a hint of coffee. This was one of the wines I got to enjoy on my journey to becoming a Sommelier. Ideal for even more ageing.

Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir 2010

Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand

Darlene scored this wine: 95/100

I think New Zealand is known for making two kinds of wine that are spectacular. Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Cloudy Bay rises above in both these wines. The 2010 Pinot Noir was just spectacularly smooth. Beautiful garnet color and juicy flavors of cherries, dark berries, cinnamon, leather and herbs. Also a peppery note. This would be a welcome wine at any dinner table. it will go with everything.
