Pomerol

Christian Moueix Pomerol Blend - Meritage 2009

A.C., Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

Samson reviewed this wine:

A perennial VINTAGES customer favourite returns in fine form with abundant aromas of plum pudding, dates, raspberry, cherry and mocha. Flavour-packed with a good, solid tannin frame and lovely ripeness. Very poised and precise finish. This will easily last a decade, though it's almost irresistible right now. Pair with grilled lamb, or beef tenderloin with sautéed mushrooms. (VINTAGES panel, Aug. 2012)

Château De L'estang Meritage 2009

A.C., Côtes De Bordeaux, France

Samson reviewed this wine:

Another sleeper of the vintage, the opaque ruby/purple-tinged 2009 l'Estang exhibits lots of sweet black currant and black cherry fruit intermixed with a hint of vanillin. Medium to full-bodied, with surprisingly pure, concentrated, lengthy flavors, it should drink well for 5-6 years. Score - 87-90. (Robert Parker Jr., erobertparker.com, April 2010)

Famille Rivière Grand Cru

Château Cheval Brun Famille Rivière Grand Cru Blend - Meritage 2009

A.C., St-Émilion, Bordeaux, France

Samson reviewed this wine:

Brimming with aromas of plum sauce, currants, raspberry, vanilla and black tea. Medium-full body with a sweet-edged fruit core. Its power is focused by big, ripe, slightly chewy tannins. Finishes with a sweet-spice flourish. Enjoy over the next decade and beyond. Will delight now with prime rib roast. (VINTAGES panel, June 2012)

Château Larose Trintaudon Blend - Meritage 2009

A.C., Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux, France

Samson reviewed this wine:

Lifted aromas of red, blue and black fruit with a touch of liqueur. It has a controlled sensuality, offering a juicy, broad style with moderate acidity and a light touch of oak. Quite elegant and light. A rather grand mouthful. Drink: 2012. Score - 4 Stars (out of 5). (decanter.com, undated)

Albert's Honour Old Vines

Malivoire Wine Company Albert's Honour Old Vines Foch 2010

V.Q.A., Ontario, Canada

Samson reviewed this wine:

Able to thrive in cool climates such as Ontario, Foch (aka Maréchal Foch) can produce fully ripe, well-structured reds. This hybrid grape (along with Baco Noir) helped prove Ontario's mettle as a region capable of serious red wines. This version from Malivoire may be the grape's ultimate expression. It's concentrated and delivers plenty of solid dark fruit character with a touch of rustic charm. 'Albert's Honour' is a tribute to Martin Malivoire's great uncle, who was awarded the French Legion of Honour medal for heroism in World War I.
