Pelee Island Winery Cabernet Franc, Ontario, Canada is a vibrant, fruit-forward red with aromas of ripe raspberry, blackberry, and red currant, accented by hints of green pepper, violet, and soft spice. It’s medium-bodied, dry, and smooth on the palate, with gentle tannins, lively acidity, and 12.5% alcohol lending freshness and balance. Serve it just below room temperature to highlight its juicy fruit and subtle herbal edge. Fascinating fact: Pelee Island Winery tends Canada’s southernmost vineyards on an island in Lake Erie, where the unique microclimate—moderated by surrounding waters—creates an ideal environment for ripening Cabernet Franc with finesse. Best enjoyed within 3–5 years to capture its youthful vibrancy. You can order this wine directly from the winery at www.peleeisland.com.

Cabernet Franc food pairings: grilled lamb chops topped with rosemary, where the wine’s herbal lift and berry core complement the dish beautifully. Or try it with roasted red pepper pasta, where its bright acidity and fruitiness echo the sweetness of the peppers.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Aromas of red cherry and raspberry, along with peppery spices, and a touch of smoke. Medium bodied on the palate, with moderate acidity on the palate, and soft, drying tannins. Fruit on the palate is bright and fresh, with more spicy notes on the finish. Enjoy with grilled pork.
