Reviews and Ratings

Rebecca Meir-Liebman - Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Full bodied rich, doesn't feel as old as it is - can definitely keep on aging for the next 8 years. There is a great back bone acidity to this wine which makes it so age-able and food friendly. Red and black fruit, some earthiness, very savoury and dry on the palate. The tannins are smooth and delicate. Great with bison and venison, beef bourguignon and lamb. Beautiful wine and excellent for the price!
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

The classic and elegant Faustino I Gran Reserva 2005, made from Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo, shows lovely color and a charming bouquet of fig, dried raisin, dried rose, mustard seed, parmesan cheese, cocoa, wood burner and oak. Balanced with lovely ageing notes, this Spaniard from Rioja will please the amateur of Spanish wine. Fruity and complex, with a medium body, the flavors open on delicious notes of sour cherry, fig, dried leaves, pastrami, tobacco, cocoa and cedar. Great wine. Enjoy!
Wineboy rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Softer nose of complex black fruits and subtle oak. Lovely balance of red and black fruits on the palate. Certain freshness from acidity along with old oak - meaning it's there is not resinous nor vanilla just a neutral wood flavour
Produced by Bodegas Faustino Martinez, Faustino I Gran Reserva 2005 is a mature and elegant full-bodied Rioja red with savoury spice, red plum vanilla, leather and grilled meat flavours on the palate. Drink now and for the next five years. Pair with a roast leg of lamb. - Community Wine Reviews
