Natalie's Score: 90/100

From the Columbia Valley, Washington, a full-bodied buttery Chardonnay with tropical fruit, apple dumpling, cinnamon and nutmeg spice flavours on the palate with a long lemon curd finish. Almost California in its makeup but that is because the Columbia Valley has two more hours of sunlight per day during July and August than California. palate. Fermented 50/50 in oak barrels and stainless steel. Aged in a combination of American and French oak barrels. Chill and enjoy with grilled chicken dishes.

Chardonnay food pairings: grilled chicken, pan-fried tempura shellfish, crab cakes, pork tenderloin bits.

Reviews and Ratings

Somm4All WSET 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

USA Chardonnay? Yes Way! Both the Chateau Ste Michelle itself, and vineyards, date back to 1912 so these folks know more than a thing or 2 about growing grapes and making quality wine in Columbia Valley, Washington. Long daylight hours and consistent daytime temperatures, along with cool nights here provide optimal conditions for Chardonnay grapes to mature while maintaining some crisp freshness. This bottle contains 100% Chardonnay grapes that were sourced from carefully selected sites throughout the Valley, with 6 months sur-lie ageing in a mix a of both French & American oak barrels. On the nose notes of lemon, pear, buttery popcorn, pure vanilla, butterscotch and a little “toastiness” present. On the palate the wine is dry, medium bodied, fresh and very well balanced as its 14% ABV is well integrated. Flavours of yellow apple, lemon, butter popcorn and butterscotch all dance around in waves of harmony. A very good Chardonnay that begs for family, friends & good conversation - would pair lovely with succulent crab risotto. Yum.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Great balance. Aromas of pear, apple pie, lemon and a hint of buttered bread and caramel. Full bodied and smooth on the palate with lovely orchard and tropical fruit, medium acidity, and a warm hint of buttery caramel on the finish. Enjoy with a roasted chicken.
Chateau Ste. Michelle 2017 Chardonnay is fantastic value under 19.95. Dry, medium-plus-bodied and lush with ripe red apple, toffee and lemon pudding flavours finishing long on the palate. Great acidity for food. Fermented 50/50 in oak barrels and stainless steel. Delightful chilled on its own or alongside roast chicken. - Community Wine Reviews
