Wood Family Vineyards is a family run winery located in the eastern foothills of Livermore Valley. Specializing in limited production handcrafted wines, Michael, Rhonda, Harrison and Parker all have a hand in the winemaking process - along with many friends and family. Michael assumes all duties during harvest and Rhonda has taken on the role of winemaker.

Rhonda started making wine in 1996 - after they purchased the Merlot vineyard where she and Michael built their home. Together, their passion for wine and belief that winemaking begins in the vineyard led them to Livermore Valley. They are tireless champions about the quality of Livermore Valley soils and their commitment to Valley grown grapes. The winery is open for tasting by appointment.

Our philosophy in winemaking begins in the vineyards of the Livermore Valley. Michael and Rhonda establish long term commitments with the various growers in order to ensure consistency in quality with the grapes we use. Gentle processing of the grapes begins with hand harvesting in early morning hours and brought to our winery and kept cool until crush. The grapes are sorted at crush with the thought…if it doesn’t look like a grape you would like to eat…it doesn’t go into the crusher/destemmer. A cold soak is done on the grapes and the grapes are allowed to warm up and naturally begin fermentation before innoculation with a chosen yeast. The Chardonnay sees 6 – 12 hours of skin time before destemming.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
