Voss Vineyards chooses a different path from the vineyard to the cellar. Our vines grow in areas famous for their soils, areas like the Rutherford Bench and Carneros. But we don’t use the classic Napa Valley varietals. Instead we nurture grapes like Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. And we use new winemaking ideas. All to create a new world of wines.

Small. Dense. Concentrated. Our vineyard isn’t the largest or highest yielding in the Napa Valley. But it is well loved. Because we know that all great wines start in the vineyard, our winemaker pays close attention to our vines.

Voss Vineyards was conceived and founded by Robert Hill Smith, a fifth-generation member of the Hill Smith family in Australia who also own the Nautilus Estate in Marlborough, New Zealand, and the famous Yalumba Winery in the Barossa region of South Australia. Robert was intrigued by the Napa Valley and saw quality and opportunity in the viticulture around Rutherford and Oakville, wondering whether he could apply some of the knowledge garnered over the 100+ years of family involvement in winemaking.

We continue to purchase grapes from select key vineyards to complement our own fruit, but by managing our own vineyard we are able to control yields and farm for flavor.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
