Earl and Pam VanVolkinburg developed a passion for growing grapes and making wine, while they were based in the U.S. Air Force in the Mosel Valley of Germany. It didn’t take long for them to develop close relationships with the surrounding producers. Upon returning to the United States in the mid 1970’s, they were curious about what it would be like to tend to their own vines. Their curiosity quickly led to inspiration, which turned into an exciting risk! They searched for the perfect land with the ideal exposure, right elevations, well drained soil and cool climate conditions - Vitae Springs Vineyard was planted that same year.

Their risk proved to be a success … Continuing with the innovation and inspiration, the second generation is now committed to managing the vineyard and winery. Joel VanVolkinburg oversees the vines on a daily basis and continues to set the highest standards of sustainable farming practices. His wife Michelle oversees sales and marketing efforts for the wines. Together, we all maintain the goal of creating premium wines that reflect our unique terrain.

The vineyard feeds our soul. It is a place where we come together to enjoy the beauty of the land and celebrate life.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
