In 1994 we moved to our present 120-acre farm in Jasper county, Iowa and continued to plant and harvest row crops of corn and soybeans. In 2000, we reconsidered the use of our rolling land. Knowing that Iowa had once been a major grape-growing state, we decided to give grapes a try. We now grow 11 acres of French-American hybrid and Native American grapes. Our vineyard is carefully and well maintained by our vineyard manager and most of our grapes are used by Jasper Winery in Des Moines. For both public and private events, we feature a variety of wines from JasperWinery, Snus Hill Winery, Summerset Winery, and Tassel Ridge Winery. How do we choose the wines we sell? They must be made with Iowa grapes, must be award winning, and we have to like them! We can help you choose a wine you will enjoy when you come for an outdoor concert, dinner show, or as you choose wines for your private event.
Sugar Grove now offers a variety of award-winning Iowa wines from select Iowa wineries as well as Iowa beer products. We continue our 12-acre vineyard, but have discontinued our private label wine-making operations. We offer our 1870s grange hall gatheringplace and grounds for private and occasional public events.

Red, White & Drunk all over by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean writes about wine with a sensuous obsession... and often laugh-out-loud funny... Terrific.

Rex Pickett, Sideways

Ms. MacLean is the disarming Everywoman. She loves wine, loves drinking ... ultimately, it's a winning formula.

Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
